What does double after split mean?
Double after split, often written DAS, means that after you split a pair you may double down on either new hand, just as you could on any first two cards.
These answers are for a 6 deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2, and you can double on any two cards, including after a split.
Why
It is a rule in the player’s favor. If you split 2s against a 5 and the first hand catches a 9, you can double that 11.
Because doubling is allowed afterward, splitting small pairs against weak dealer cards is worth more. The pair plays on these pages assume the rule is in place.
The play against every dealer card
| Dealer shows | Your play |
|---|---|
| 2 to 4 or 7 to Ace | Hit |
| 5 or 6 | Split |
