Hard totals
What should I do with 8 or less?
Hit. A hard total of 8 or less is a hit against every dealer card.
These answers are for a 6 deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2, and you can double on any two cards, including after a split.
Why
No single card can bust a hand of 11 or less, so taking a card carries no risk at all.
Doubling on 8 or less gives you only one card on a hand that usually needs two, so you hit and keep going.
