Splitting pairs
Should I split 6s?
Split them when the dealer shows 2 to 6. Hit when the dealer shows 7 to Ace.
These answers are for a 6 deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2, and you can double on any two cards, including after a split.
Why
Two 6s make 12. Against a 2 to 6 the dealer has to draw from a weak start, and two hands from 6 do better than one 12.
Against a 7 or higher, two hands from 6 would each face a dealer who usually makes 17 or more, so play the 12 and hit.
The play against every dealer card
| Dealer shows | Your play |
|---|---|
| 2 to 6 | Split |
| 7 to Ace | Hit |
