Splitting pairs
Should I split 7s?
Split them when the dealer shows 2 to 7. Hit when the dealer shows 8 to Ace.
These answers are for a 6 deck game where the dealer stands on soft 17, blackjack pays 3 to 2, and you can double on any two cards, including after a split.
Why
Two 7s make 14, a total that rarely wins on its own. Against a 2 to 7, each 7 is a better start than the 14, so split.
Against an 8 or higher, hit the 14.
The play against every dealer card
| Dealer shows | Your play |
|---|---|
| 2 to 7 | Split |
| 8 to Ace | Hit |
